In this tutorial I show you how to create an animated confusion effect in after effects using the twirl effect. Step one is to load the video into the timeline. Next, create an adjustment layer and place it on track 2. Now grab the pen tool and create a mask over the area you want the twirl / confusion effect to apply to. Select the tracker panel and track the mask forward. Now go to the effects and presets panel and apply the twirl effect to the adjustment layer. Adjust the twirl radius to about 6.0 (or as needed) and then animate the angle by clicking the stop watch.
