In this quick tutorial I show you how to create a paper cutout effect or paper cut out look in adobe illustrator. Step one is to create a document 1000 px in height and 1000 px in width. Next, draw three separate shapes using the Pencil tool. For each shape, remove the stroke. Change the fill color for each shape – one can be red, one can be orange, and one can be yellow. Now apply a drop shadow effect to each shape. I use an x and y offset of 15 pixels, 75% opacity, and 5 pixel blur, with multiply as the blending mode.
Lastly, select all the shapes and then click on divide in the pathfinder tool. Send the middle shape to the bottom of the layer stack and the largest shape to the top.
