In this quick tutorial, I walk you through how to take a regular photo and make it look vintage. Like it was taken in the 50’s or 60’s. The steps are simple.
Step one is to convert the image in a smart object by enabling smart filters. Then we go to Filter — Noise — Add noise. Add 25 – 35% for the effect to be noticeable.
Next we create a new fill or adjustment layer – black and white. Select this, then check the tint box. Select the colour tint you’d like for the photo. Try to go with a sepia / yellow / orange look for vintage style photos.
Next, we add blur via a new adjustment layer – blur – gaussian blur. Try it with a 3.0 radius or so to start.
Finally, we add an adjustment layer – brightness / contrast. Adjust the brightness / contrast as you see fit. That’s it!
